WEAH BREAKS SILENCE: “THE RESULT ON THE PITCH MUST STAND”

George Weah calls for firm action from CAS, insisting the referee’s authority must prevail and the result of the AFCON final should not be overturned.

WEAH DEFENDS THE AUTHORITY OF THE REFEREE

Former Liberia president George Weah has publicly taken a strong stance regarding the controversy surrounding the AFCON final between Senegal and Morocco.

In a firm statement, Weah reminded that under the Laws of the Game, the referee remains the ultimate authority during a match.

According to him, once the referee allows play to continue and the match reaches its conclusion, the result obtained on the pitch must be respected.

CLEAR REFERENCE TO FIFA LAW 5

Weah explicitly referred to FIFA regulations, notably Law 5, which states that the referee has full authority to enforce the Laws of the Game and that decisions related to match facts are final.

He also highlighted that CAF regulations align with FIFA’s framework, reinforcing the idea that match officials hold full control during the game.

“NO FORFEIT, MATCH COMPLETED”

In the specific case of the AFCON final, Weah emphasized that:

▪️The referee allowed the match to continue after the incident
▪️The game was played until its full conclusion, including extra time
▪️The referee’s report mentioned an interruption, not a forfeit

For him, these elements are crucial and should prevent any post-match decision from overturning the result.

A CALL TO CAS AND AUTHORITIES

Weah has now called on the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and other competent bodies to act firmly to avoid what he described as an injustice.

He insists that any decision taken after the match should not override the authority exercised by the referee during the game.

WEAH DENIES FALSE CLAIMS

Finally, Weah strongly denied circulating reports on social media claiming he supported CAF’s disciplinary decision against Senegal.
He clarified that these statements are false and urged people to stop using his image to spread misinformation.
